The order sets restructuring of powers and performance expectations across officer levels to reduce pendency, improve consistency, and enhance accountability.

Key Developments

  1. Over 154 officers, including 7 Deputy Registrars, 36 Assistant Registrars, 47 Senior examiners, and 64 Examiners, have been assigned clearly defined roles and responsibilities across all Registry branches in order to ensure clarity and accountability.
  2. Additional officers, those responsible for handling IRDI cases, have been appointed to conduct hearings. This marks a positive shift towards a more balanced and consistent adjudication of trademark matters
  3. The restructuring emphasizes digitized workflows, electronic recording of decisions, and a standardized examination practice across all offices, promoting transparency and consistency and also uniform, reasoned and timely decision making in trademark, GI and copyright related matters.
